Trinity Episcopal Church History
Founded in 1733, Trinity Church was later damaged by the great Boston fire of 1872. From 1872 to 1877, it was rebuilt under the design of the renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Richardson was the first American architect to gain international recognition, and the Richardson Romanesque style he pioneered began with this church. Trinity Church is both his first work and his representative masterpiece.
Architectural Features
The clay roof, stained glass decorations, rough stone surfaces, heavy round arches, and massive towers are not only characteristic of the church but also define the Richardson Romanesque style.
